The TIGER of AMUR

Aside Posted on Updated on

When I’m creating any animal for my Endangered/Extinction Series, one of my “secret ingredients” is sadness and lots of anger.

Just to think about this brother of us is  coming to an end, makes me sick.

I feel the helplessness about how human being can be as deshonest with himself. I wonder what’s going to happen with some countries health when Tigers, Rhinos, Elephants, Monkeys, Birds, Insects can’t be found anymore…

This is my Tiger of Amur or Siberian Tiger, needle felting sculpture, from my Endangered/Extinction series.

A bitof non felted… Rocinante’s Dream

Aside Posted on

“Rocinante’s Dream” the ethernal Don Quixote’s horse, is my last finished sculpture, this time I modeled it. It is dry-air clay, with mane and tail made of wool. Hope you like it.

Common Tern (Charrán Común) Life sized sculpture.

Aside Posted on Updated on

This is another guy that will be very hard to rid of. When I suddenly find that inspiration that makes me to take the needles and start something to work tirelessy on it  till I see it finished, it’s a signal of a really special piece has been born.

Birds looks like easy pieces, but they aren’t, since you have only a very few parameters to give them “soul”; no fur, no theet and no facial expression like mammals have, so you must to find that delicate shapes that are the “quiz” for a lifelike feeling. The distance between eyes and beak, the curve of the head, and all the body proportions with mathematic precision… and all this, just with my eyes, they watch and send to my hands the order they need. This process will be always the great mystery to me.

It reminds me “Kika” the Magpie.. hard to see her go of, but a “mom’s pride” feeling too.. This is the sense of Art, actually.

I came home from Rome and Firenza..

Aside Posted on Updated on

Yes.. at home again. During my trip, I’ve taken some supplies with me; and while I was lying in that beautiful garden, just with my feet into the pool (all for me alone) I’ve felted this Grizzly Bear. So this is my Grizzly born at Rome!!

I’ve enjoyed this little vacation.. Italy is so beautiful, and everything looks a bit like here in Spain, so I was feeling like at home, but people speaking italian what is not a big problem.

Beautifuñ Anzio too, at the Mediterraneo shore, where we had tasted some fish dishes, really tasty.

Il Duomo simply amazed me. Ponte Vecchio was beautiful.. but with thousands of people does not look something special to me.. perhaps because I have had a more medieval image in  mind..  but all the bridges over the Arno river was a beautiful landscape.

The Vaticano huge and beautiful, I loved to see La Pieta de Michelangelo: simply thrilling.. you feel something special while watching it… mystic.

I must return to Italy. For sure!!
